Yesterday was a very busy day. I wasn’t sure how much we would accomplish since we got home so late the night before and I let the kids sleep in. But, somehow we managed to fill our day.
A habit the kids have gotten into lately in the morning is to look out the window at the birds in the nest. They looked out the window this morning and found that the birds had flown away. Appropriate for “F” day.
After we ate we went to the library to sign up for the summer reading program. For this program the kids read throughout the month and record the amount of time they read each day. They also have different tasks to complete each week. One of the tasks on the list was to learn to say “hello” in French and say it to a librarian. Caleb said, “French starts with an F. Can we do that one today?” So, I taught him the word and he said it to the librarian.
While at the library we decided to look for some “F” books. We found Feathers, Franklin and the Duckling, Fleabag, and Feet Are Not for Kicking.
When we left the library Caleb told me that he got to do another “F” at the library… he played with friends. On the way home for lunch we decided to stop by Family Video and pick out some free movies. Caleb and Karin started looking for movies starting with an “F” (Caleb chose one on Fire Fighters) but soon asked if they could pick any movie; even if it didn’t start with an “F”. So, we ended up with Hello Kitty, Mee-Shee The Water Giant, and a Sesame Street exercise video.
Next we found a local farm to visit (thanks to our friend Miss Jenn). Caleb and Karin really enjoyed this. There were chickens running around everywhere. We also got to see goats, a duck, and a great big turkey. We watched someone load the goats on a tractor and Caleb loved when one of the goats head butted another goat out of the way. We also got to pet a tiny kitten. We walked through the market at the farm and the kids played for a while on the playground.

After naptime we headed over to one of the local fire stations. There were three firemen on duty and they graciously let Caleb and Karin climb all over the fire trucks. They got to drive the trucks and turn on the lights. They really did not want to leave. And we got to hand out one of our homemade cards from "C" day.
For dinner we had French Style Green Beans and Fish Sticks, what else? I was going to make French Fries but I was voted down. And the sign for the day is…
