“G”-day was a pretty laid back day. It was almost too hot to be outside so we spent most of the day playing in the house. And when Caleb found out it was “G” he said, “We should say Good Day instead of Hello today since Good Day starts with a G.” He’s really getting into our letter days.
We started off the day with a breakfast of gravy, sausage, and biscuits. The kids indulged me on this one. They preferred the biscuits to the gravy but went along with it for the sake of the letter.
After breakfast we went out to work in the garden. Caleb and Karin took turns digging in the soil. They helped me plant our tomato and mustard plants from the Farmer’s Market along with some peppers we found at the garden center. We also started some corn, broccoli, radish, onions, and carrots. Since our last frost was so late this year I don’t really know if we are too late in getting some of these vegetables started but we had fun working on the garden together. Later in the afternoon Daddy helped the kids plant their own pumpkin seeds.
We also spent some time weeding and watering the herb garden and green beans in the barrel. Caleb started the beans in kindergarten and we replanted them to see if they would grow. They look good and are starting to get some blooms on them.
Since it was so hot outside we decided to go in the house and make a snack. We made graham cracker sandwiches. We took graham crackers and spread them with frosting (that I had left over from making Karin’s birthday cupcakes). We then put another graham cracker on top. Ta-Da… graham cracker sandwich. Our friend Jodi turned us on to this one. Karin and Braelyn preferred their graham crackers without the frosting but Caleb would have eaten the rest of the frosting if I would have let him.
A friend of Caleb’s just had a birthday so Caleb and Karin wrapped a birthday gift we bought for him. Caleb and Karin also wanted to make him a birthday card… but we’ll call it a greeting card in honor of the day.
In honor of “G” day we also called Grandma…
and learned how to play Go Fish.
Caleb mentioned at one point that I should do something with the girls today since girl starts with “G.” I asked him what he would do if I took the girls somewhere and he said he would just wait until we did “B” day again so he could have a boy day with Daddy. I mentioned this to a friend and she suggested we do girls and guys day. That works!!
I asked the kids what I should make for dinner that started with a “G.” I, personally, was hoping they would suggest my favorite Gyro but no go. Caleb suggested Grilled Cheese. Since that was easier (and less expensive) we went with that.
While I was making dinner Caleb asked if I would let him watch Star Wars. He said that General Grievous is in the movie and he has two G’s in his name. A stretch I know but how could I say no when he made that connection?! And before bed we read Giraffe’s Can’t Dance and learned our sign for the day.
