We started the day yesterday with swimming lessons. I know swimming doesn’t start with an “H” but Karin did throw a HUGE fit for 35 of the 40 minutes of the lesson… so that counts. Plus, it was hot hot hot… perfect for “H” day.
After the swimming lesson we went to the mall to look at the hermit crabs in one of the stores. Caleb and Karin had a lot of fun watching the hermit crabs crawl around on top of each other and all over the cage. They each picked out the hermit crab shell that they would like to have… we did not but any today; just looked. Caleb picked a crab that had a Spiderman shell and Karin picked a crab with a pink shell. Caleb also asked the sales associate at the store some questions about the hermit crabs. He wanted to know about feeding them, watering them, and cleaning their cages. He also wanted to know how they change their shells and what they do with the old ones. The sales associate answered all of his questions and gave him an information sheet to take home and read.
We left this store and went to the bookstore at the mall. While there the kids looked throughout the children’s section to find books that started with the letter “H”. They found: Horses, Hands Are Not For Hitting, Have Your Filled Your Bucket Today, and Harry the Dirty Dog.
We left the mall and drove the McDonald’s. My plan was to go home and eat hamburgers and/or hot dogs for lunch but we had both at a picnic we attended the night before so I didn’t have any takers. I was able to sell them on a Happy Meal, though. They both picked chicken nuggets but they ate them with Honey Mustard so I guess that counts. And Braelyn ate a hamburger- at least she stayed with the “H” theme.
On the way home Caleb asked if we could stay at a hotel since hotel starts with an “H.” I told him no but that we could go see a hotel. He agreed so we went to a hotel and took a picture out front.

After quiet time we all piled back in the car and went on a search for some horses. We found some along the side of the road and we were able to snap some pictures. Caleb and Karin wanted to ride the horses but that didn’t work out today. We may extend “H” day so the kids can see some horses up close and personal.

And the sign for the day…
We did decide to add another “H” day. I called around this morning and found some stables to visit. We were able to go over at 5:00 pm when the owners of the horses were there to feed and groom their horses. We were able to walk all around the farm and barns. We saw miniature horses, full grown horses, and babies. Caleb and Karin were a bit hesitant at first to pet them but once they started I almost couldn’t get them to leave. Caleb also asked one of the owners a lot of questions about feeding and taking care of horses. One owner also let the kids watch while she put her horses back in the stables. They are now asking if they can take riding lessons.

We were planning on playing some rousing games of hopscotch and hot potato but we ran out of time. Now... on to “I” day.
