J

We had a lot of fun on “J” day.

We started “J” day by going to jail. Actually, it was a small jail cell sitting in the middle of a parking lot in Jonesboro (what do you know, another “J”?). We all climbed out of the car and I locked Caleb and Karin in the jail cell. There was a small stove in the back of the cell that Karin enjoyed playing with while Caleb preferred climbing on the bars.

Our next “J” adventure was to go jumping (and bouncing and sliding and running) with our friends Miss Jennifer, Lily, and Russell. Caleb said it was perfect that Miss Jennifer was there since her name started with a “J.” Karin really seemed to like the big slide and Caleb liked the obstacle course/slide the best.

After some time jumping, the kids took a juice break. I think we wore them out with 2 hours of jumping.

After naptime, the kids and I made some Black Cherry Jell-o. They helped me mix it and pour it in a pan.

The plan was to cut the Jell-o into squares and make Jell-o castles. We found, however, that it is really hard to make castles out of Jell-o. The squares just don’t stack up well. Karin ended up eating most of her pieces and spreading the rest all over the counter. Caleb tried to stack them put finally gave up and started eating the squares.

We also decided to make some Strawberry Jam. We had some strawberries in the refrigerator that needed to be eaten so we decided to use those. Caleb and Karin took turns mashing the strawberries in a bowl. We then added sugar and put it all in a large pot on the stove. They took turns stirring the berries until the jam was done. Once the jam was cooled we spread it over some fresh bread. YUM!!

We read a few “J” books before bed: Jack and Jill’s Treehouse, Just Like Daddy, and Jingle-Jingle.

The sign for the day is an action sign so it’s kind of difficult to show it with a picture. Caleb tried showing the beginning and end of the sign.
