K

I have to admit, “K” day had me stumped. We had a busy day already planned with swimming lessons, a doctor’s appointment, and a trip to the store. I didn’t want to pack too much more into the day. We ended up finding some fun “K” things to do.

The first thing we did was make Key Lime Pie. Since this is my favorite flavor of pie I knew this was a must for “K” day. Caleb and Karin helped me pour and mix all of the ingredients and Caleb helped me put the pie in the oven.

While we were waiting for the pie to bake and set we played kick the can outside. I let Caleb and Karin pick their cans out of the recycle box in the kitchen (one rule was that they could not play with the cans with their hands as I didn’t want them to get cut). The kids loved playing this game. They loved the sound the cans made when they landed on the patio. Because it was so hot outside, we turned on the sprinkler and they kicked the cans through the sprinkler.

To cool off after running around outside, Karin helped me make a pitcher of Kool-Aid.

Once they decided it was too hot to be outside, Caleb and Karin came in to play. And since it was “K” day Caleb insisted that we did Karate. They have never had lessons but it was hysterical to watch. Caleb felt like Karate involved chopping and kicking while Karin felt like it meant jumping up and down and shouting. I kept Braelyn out of the room for her safety. Very entertaining!

After quiet time we went for a special treat. Since it was “K” day and Karin starts with a “K” we let her pick the treat for the day. She picked the new ice cream parlor called KaleidoScoops. Caleb and Karin each had a scoop of Moose Tracks and Braelyn and I shared a scoop of Candy Factory ice cream. I’m not sure how but Caleb managed to eat his ice cream cone is less than 5 minutes while it took Karin over an hour to eat hers. I guess she was savoring every bite of her special treat. Before we left Caleb selected the flavors we wants to try for his next three visits.

We did read some “K” books: Knuffle Bunny and Kisses. And here is the sign of the day..

Oh… we ate the pie for dessert. Karin wouldn’t even try it and Caleb said it was too "limey" but he ate it anyway. Mommy and Daddy gobbled it up.
